BAKED RAISED DONUTS 1 ½ cups milk 1/3 cup shortening 4 Tbsp. Sugar 2 tsp. Salt 2 tsp. Nutmeg ¼ tsp. Cinnamon 2 pkgs. Yeast ¼ cup warm water 2 eggs beaten 4 ¾ cup flour Melted butter and sugar Scald the milk, stir in shortening, sugar, salt and spices. Cool to lukewarm. Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add eggs to milk mixture. Stir in flour. Beat well. Cover and let rise until doubled, about one hour. Turn out on floured board. Turn dough 2 or 3 times to shape into a soft ball. Roll to ½ inch thick. Cut with floured cutter. Place 2 inches apart on greased baking sheet. Brush with melted butter. Let rise until doubled, about 30 minutes. Bake at 425 for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown. Brush with butter and roll in sugar. Yield: 3 dozen donuts. TION: Wrap a strip of bacon around each fish. Flour both sides of fish. |
