ITALIAN BREAD STICKS2/3 cup warm water 1 Tbsp. Sugar 1 pkg. Yeast ¼ cup soft shortening 1 tsp. Salt 2 cups flour In mixing bowl dissolve yeast in water; add salt, sugar & shortening. Add ½ of the flour; beat vigorously until smooth. Mix in rest of flour; knead on floured board about 5 minutes. Cover & let rise 1 hour. Heat oven to 400. Divide dough in half, and cut into 24 pieces. Roll each into pencil shape. Place on greased baking sheet, one inch apart. Brush with beaten egg (one Tbsp. Water for each egg), sprinkle with sesame seeds or corn meal. Bake 20-25 minutes. Makes 48 |
